Participate in the HBCD Study

If you’re pregnant, you could help shape the future of children’s health by participating in the HEALthy Brain and Child Development (HBCD) Study.

Who can participate?

The HBCD Study is enrolling pregnant woman in their 2nd and 3rd trimesters. Our goal is to have 7,200 participating families from different backgrounds with varied education, income levels, and living environments.

Why should I participate?

  • Help researchers understand how different life experiences shape child development and children’s brains
  • Receive information to support children’s well-being
  • Connect to resources in your area for pregnancy and development

What does participation involve?

  • Participants meet with researchers at a local university.
  • Researchers collect information starting during pregnancy through children’s 10th birthday.
  • Researchers gather babies’ data —like growth measurements or heart and brain activity—in safe and non-invasive ways.
  • Participants complete interviews or questionnaires and play interactive games with their baby.
  • Participants are compensated for their time in the study.
  • All participants’ identifying information is private and confidential.

How do I sign up to participate?
